Tannehill kicks rookie RB out of Dolphins' huddle

Ryan Tannehill showed a surprise glimpse of that midway through the Dolphins' practice Sunday when the QB yelled at rookie Kalen Ballage and kicked him out of the huddle after the running back missed a blocking assignment that resulted in a clean sack by Charles Harris. The typically reserved Tannehill temporarily stopped practice to show his displeasure with Ballage. It was an otherwise strong practice for the Dolphins, but the biggest takeaway may have been the latest example of Tannehill taking a firm grasp of the team as his own and not waiting for a coach to hold other players accountable.

Lawyer: OSU never contacted Courtney Smith

Ohio State has never contacted Courtney Smith to discuss domestic assault allegations she made against her ex-husband, former Buckeyes assistant coach Zach Smith, according to Courtney Smith's attorney, Julia Leveridge. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has issued a statement saying that he "failed" when he said he didn't know about a series of domestic violence allegations involving his ex-assistant coach Zach Smith. NFL and its players union working on anthem resolution

The league and its players union issued a joint statement late Thursday, hours after The Associated Press reported that Miami Dolphins players who protest on the field during the anthem could be suspended for up to four games under a team policy issued this week. Miami's anthem policy came after the NFL decided in May that teams would be fined if players didn't stand during "The Star-Spangled Banner" while on the field. "Players who are on the field during the Anthem performance must stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem," says the 16th and final bullet point on Miami's list of conduct considered detrimental, below disparaging teammates, coaches or officials including NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Kisner takes lead, Carnoustie holds its own at British Open

Three of Kisner's housemates also were under par — PGA champion Justin Thomas (69), two-time major champion Zach Johnson (70) and Fowler (70). It was the tee shot of U. S. Open champion Brooks Koepka, who hit driver off the tee to set up an easy birdie. On the longest day — from Sandy Lyle hitting the opening tee shot at 6:35 a. m. and the group including newcomer Bronson Burgoon finishing off the first round nearly 13 hours later — everyone had their own style of getting around the course reputed to be the toughest links in golf.
